Holland Plain and the Cross Island Line: What King Albert Park's 2032 Interchange Means

Buyers who use King Albert Park MRT as shorthand for "Holland Plain is well connected" are describing a station that will look very different by the early 2030s. The Land Transport Authority (LTA) is rebuilding King Albert Park into a two-line interchange as part of Cross Island Line (CRL) Phase 2, and construction is already under way at the station this site lists as roughly a 10–15 minute walk from the Holland Plain parcel. That is a genuine buyer decision, not a marketing line: it changes what "near King Albert Park MRT" will mean over a typical holding period, and it is proceeding on its own timeline, independent of when Holland Plain itself launches, prices or completes.

What LTA has actually confirmed at King Albert Park

On 2 October 2023, LTA announced it had awarded the civil contract for the King Albert Park CRL station to China Communications Construction Company Limited (Singapore Branch), worth approximately S$447 million, with construction targeted to start in the first quarter of 2024. CRL Phase 2 construction formally began with a ground-breaking ceremony on 7 July 2025, when LTA confirmed that King Albert Park will become Singapore's deepest MRT station on completion — about 50 metres down, roughly equivalent to a 16-storey building, built across five basement levels. The new station connects the Cross Island Line directly to the existing Downtown Line at the same site, and passenger service for CRL Phase 2 is targeted to commence in 2032.

Why an interchange, not just a new line

Cross Island Line Phase 2 extends the existing 29-kilometre first phase of the CRL by a further approximately 15 kilometres westwards, adding six new underground stations. Clementi is the other interchange in this phase, connecting to the East-West Line, while King Albert Park connects to the Downtown Line that already runs past Holland Plain. What a 2032 target means for a household buying now

Two timelines run side by side here, and they should not be merged. LTA's 2032 passenger-service target belongs to the Cross Island Line project; it says nothing about Holland Plain's own launch date, price or Temporary Occupation Permit, all of which remain TBA on this site. What the confirmed contract and the 2025 groundbreaking do establish is that construction activity at King Albert Park is already a multi-year, present-tense reality, regardless of when Holland Plain itself launches. A household weighing the location today is really weighing two different things: several years of an active construction site next to the neighbourhood's main MRT station, set against an upgrade of that nearest station to a two-line interchange once that work is done. What stays unknown

LTA describes 2032 as a target, not a guaranteed opening date, and large underground works of this kind can shift. The exact walking distance and route from the eventual Holland Plain address to the rebuilt King Albert Park entrances has not been confirmed, and LTA has not published a projected journey time from the new interchange to specific destinations. None of this changes Holland Plain's own facts: the price list and floor plans stay TBA until Sim Lian releases them, and this article does not convert a transport project into a value estimate.
